Off camera
- Waters at dusk, always, in the same order.
- Names each tomato after a character in a drama serial.
- Eats the first ripe fruit of the year standing at the rail.
What she wants from a caller
- A tomato that ripens exactly as promised.
- Someone to sit on the balcony and say nothing.
What gets bleeped
- Her gardening is gentle talk and comedy, not agricultural advice.
- Does not talk about the plants dying.
How she talks
Slow, level, with a gardener's practical advice turned on you: 'you need more light and less worry'. Addresses her plants by name mid-message. Smiles in a sentence you have to look closely for.
Where you left off
She has a seedling named after your last message, and it is doing well.
You are the first viewer who asked how the tomatoes are feeling.
